Akaki Kality, a semi-rural community south of Addis Ababa, became home to many families displaced by urban redevelopment between 2003 and 2006. Relocated to government-built housing, families faced high rents, limited employment, and inadequate access to basic services. When Real Humanitarian first visited, children were learning beneath a blue tarp using makeshift desks.

In 2006, we partnered with a local NGO to build a three-room school and provide educational resources. In 2013, we introduced our full Holistic Child Centered Network (HCCN) model.

Today, the Kality Center supports 70 children aged 5 to 16. Canadian charity Vulnerable Children Society funds its operating expenses through the Love and Hope Center program.

Alemgena, a rural community southeast of Addis Ababa, is rapidly growing with new housing and commercial developments.

In 2007, Real Humanitarian partnered with local charity Yenege Tesfa Histenat (Kids Hope) to establish its second education support center, building on the success of the Gulele program.

Today, the Alemgena Center supports 50 students from grades 1 to 12 through our Holistic Child Centered Network model.

Since 2007, Real Humanitarian has partnered with Support Street Children and Mothers (SSCM), a registered Ethiopian charity, to provide vocational training for disadvantaged young adults.

Each year, 50–90 students train in hairdressing, woodworking, or metalwork through nine months of classroom instruction and a two-month workplace practicum. Training also includes work ethics, business skills, and personal finance.

Real Humanitarian covers operational and staffing costs, while the local government provides the facility rent-free. To date, over 650 students have graduated with nationally recognized trade certificates, and employment rates have consistently exceeded 80% over the past decade.

In 2013, Real Humanitarian took over and expanded programs in the communities of Kersa and Turge.

In Kersa, our full Holistic Child Centered Network (HCCN) model supports 50 children and their families. The center also operates a community garden that provides fresh produce for nutrition programs, family food hampers, and market sales, with proceeds reinvested into education. In 2020, the garden produced over 5,000 kg of potatoes and 1,000 kg of corn.

In nearby Turge, our CCN model supports 20 children and their families through academic scholarships, extracurricular activities, regular medical and dental care, and year-round support from educators and social workers.

Halecu is a small rural farming community near Adam Tulu in the Ziway Region, approximately 20 km from Ziway. Despite its agricultural potential, the community faces recurring drought and limited access to water, with families often spending hours collecting water from distant sources.

A local group, Foresight Fathers, raised funds to build a school so young children would not have to walk 8 km each way to attend classes. The school remains open with local government support.

In 2016, Real Humanitarian introduced its Holistic Child Centered Network (HCCN) model in Halecu, initially supporting 20 children. At the local government's request, the program expanded in 2018 and now supports 50 children annually.

With 15 students currently enrolled in all grade levels through the Scholarship Program in the city of Jimma, we are making a small but meaningful impact here. Every student that is able to stay in school enriches their community for a lifetime to come.

Each student receives a monthly stipend, tuition and book allowance. The students report monthly on their grades, attendance at classes and provide receipts for transportation costs, books, and living expenses

Students accepted into universities, colleges, technical and trade schools, or vocational programs continue receiving scholarship support, including monthly stipends, tuition and book allowances. Students regularly report on academic progress, attendance, and expenses.

Graduates stay connected through an Alumni Association that offers peer support, employment connections, and opportunities to mentor and tutor current students. The Association also hosts annual gatherings, while top scholars can compete for additional grants, laptops, and bursaries.
